Lifecycles main window

This topic describes the areas and options of the Lifecycles section in the Administration Console.

About the Lifecycles main window

The Lifecycles main window contains the following areas:

Menu area Displays the toolbar for creating, copying, or deleting lifecycles.
Navigation area Displays a list of all the lifecycles for the base database. You can select to display the lifecycles only for requests, items, baselines, or projects.
Content area Depending on what is selected in the navigation area, contains a summary of all the lifecycles, or the details of a selected lifecycle, including its diagram and images.

To open Lifecycles, go to Administration Console > Configuration Object Management > Lifecycles.

Lifecycles menu area toolbar

Use the Lifecycles toolbar to perform the following operations:

  • Create a new lifecycle.

  • Create a new lifecycle by copying an existing lifecycle.

  • Delete one or more lifecycles.

Lifecycles navigation area

The Lifecycles navigation pane lists all the lifecycles in the base database.

By default, all lifecycles are displayed. You can select to display the lifecycles for a specific object: item, request, baseline, or project.

Click the top-level Lifecycles icon in the navigation pane to view a summary of all the lifecycles in the content pane.

Select a lifecycle to view its details in the content pane.

Lifecycles content area

The Lifecycles content pane displays information about the object selected in the navigation pane.

When you select the top-level Lifecycles icon, the content pane displays a summary of all lifecycles in the base database. The summary includes the lifecycle name and description, the user who create the lifecycle, and the creation date.

You can perform the following operations:

  • Select a lifecycle and edit it. For details, see Edit Lifecycle dialog box.
  • Display a summary of lifecycles as a separate HTML page to print or save.

  • Display the list of lifecycles as comma-separated values to save as a text file.

  • Sort the list of lifecycles by column headings. Click Select All  to select all the lifecycles on the page.

When you select a specific lifecycle in the navigation pane, the content pane displays the lifecycle details, flow, and images:

Section Description
Lifecycle Details

Contains general lifecycle information, including the name and description, the user who created the lifecycle, and the object types that use the lifecycle.

Click the object type links to edit the lifecycle for that object type.

You can assign object types to the lifecycle and edit the lifecycle description.

Lifecycle Flow

Displays a lifecycle diagram of the states in the normal path.

You can edit the lifecycle flow. For details, see Edit Lifecycle dialog box.

Lifecycle Images

Displays a list of images associated with the lifecycle.

You can add new and update existing images, save and delete images, and set the default lifecycle image.

Adding an image creates a new revision of the image. Importing an image file replaces an existing image.
