LoadRunner Enterprise basics

This section explains how to log onto LoadRunner Enterprise, and use it for running your day-to-day performance testing activities.

Log onto LoadRunner Enterprise

This section describes how to log into LoadRunner Enterprise.

  1. Open your web browser and type the LoadRunner Enterprise server URL in the following format: http://<LoadRunner Enterprise server name>/Loadtest

    The LoadRunner Enterprise Login window opens.

    Note:  

    • If more than one LoadRunner Enterprise server is installed in your system together with a load balancer, you should access LoadRunner Enterprise by entering the load balancer's URL. Alternatively, you can also enter the server's defined internal URL.

    • Contact your system administrator if you do not have the correct URL.

    • If LoadRunner Enterprise was configured for external authentication (SSO), you are redirected to the LoadRunner Enterprise Login window from which you need to select a domain and project (the username and password are already filled in). For details, see SSO authentication.

  2. Enter the user name and password assigned to you by your site administrator.

  3. Select Automatically log in to my last domain and project on this machine or click the Authenticate button.

    • If you specified automatic login, click the Authenticate button. LoadRunner Enterprise opens to the last project in which you were working.

    • If you clicked the Authenticate button, select a domain and project (LoadRunner Enterprise lists the domains and projects depending on your access rights). By default, the last project in which you were working is displayed.

    Note: The system administrator can control user access to LoadRunner Enterprise projects by defining user roles that can enter them, and by determining the types of tasks each user role performs according to permission levels. For details, see Assign roles and permissions.

  4. Select the language for displaying the LoadRunner Enterprise user interface.

    The multilingual user interface, or MLU, provides support for multiple languages on a single instance of LoadRunner Enterprise without having to install language packs. Supported languages are English, French, German, Japanese, Russian, Simplified Chinese, and Korean.

  5. Click the Login button. LoadRunner Enterprise opens. .

Change project without logging out

This section describes how to change a project without logging out of LoadRunner Enterprise.

  1. From the LoadRunner Enterprise navigation toolbar, click the <Domain>\<Project> name.

  2. Select a domain and project (LoadRunner Enterprise lists the domains and projects depending on your access rights), and click OK.

Change your own password

This section describes how to change your own password.

  1. In the LoadRunner Enterprise navigation toolbar, click and select Change Password.

  2. Enter your current password. If you do not remember your current password, ask your site administrator to change it for you.

  3. Enter a new password, confirm it, and then click Change.

    Note: The password must conform to the password policy defined by the site administrator. For details, see Set the password policy.

LoadRunner Enterprise user interface

This section describes the menus and buttons in the LoadRunner Enterprise masthead.

UI Elements

Description

Module Navigation Toolbar. Click to display the navigation toolbar, enabling you to navigate to a selected module. Includes the following modules: Dashboard, Testing, Assets, Resources, Applications, and Reports.

Enables you to select the following options:

  • Help Center. Displays help for LoadRunner Enterprise. It also enables you to open additional online LoadRunner Enterprise resources.

  • About LoadRunner Enterprise. Displays LoadRunner Enterprise version information.

  • Accessibility. Opens the Keyboard Shortcuts window which enables you to activate and deactivate the keyboard shortcuts. For details, see Keyboard shortcuts.

  • Suggest and Idea. Opens the Idea Exchange where you can submit ideas, vote on submissions, and collaborate with colleagues, partners, and product teams.

Enables opening and closing any open test tabs directly from the navigation area. This is available after drilling down from the Dashboard, online or offline screen, results page, event log, and reports.

  • Indicates the number of running tests.
  • Indicates the number of tests open for editing.
  • Indicates the number of topologies open for editing.
  • Indicates the number of trend reports open for editing.

Click the panel to display the list of open tests, and then click a Run ID link to open the selected test in the Test Run page page, or a Test ID link to display a test in the Performance Test Designer window.

You can switch between collapsed mode and pinned mode for any open tabs. In collapsed mode, any tabs that are open are displayed below the masthead.

<Domain>\<Project>. Displays the selected domain name and project name.

Click the drop-down arrow to change domain and project (LoadRunner Enterprise lists the domains and projects depending on your access rights).

Displays the current user name. Click the drop-down arrow, and select one of the following:

  • Change Password. Enables you to change your password. For details, see Change your own password.

  • Logout. Logs you out of your current project and returns you to the LoadRunner Enterprise Login window.
Modules

Dashboard. Displays the LoadRunner Enterprise Dashboard. For details, see View the dashboard.

Usage Reports. Enables you to generate usage reports to help monitor and manage usage of LoadRunner Enterprise resources. You can also generate reports from LoadRunner Enterprise Administration (http://<LoadRunner Enterprise server name>/admin/). For details, see Generate usage reports.

Testing

Assets

  • Monitors. Enables you to create and manage monitor profiles and monitors over a firewall. For details, see Monitors module.

  • Analysis Template. Enables you to create and manage analysis templates. For details, see Customize analysis templates.

  • Topologies. Enables you to create and manage topologies. For details, see Topologies Module.

Resources
  • Hosts. Enables you to view and manage hosts. For details, see Hosts module.

  • Timeslots. Enables you to view and manage timeslots. For details, see Timeslots module.

Applications

  • Performance Trending. Enables you to view performance trending information. For details, see Performance Trending module.

  • PAL. Enables you to view performance application lifecycle information. For details, see PAL module.

    Note: The PAL feature is not available in this release of LoadRunner Enterprise.

  • Controller Options. Opens the Controller Options dialog box enabling you to configure the global Controller options for your LoadRunner Enterprise project. For details, see Configure global Controller and test options.

  • Download Applications. Opens the Download Applications dialog box enabling you to download standalone applications needed for working with LoadRunner Enterprise. For details, see Download standalone applications.

Create New Test Opens the Create New Performance Test dialog box, enabling you to create a new test. For details, see Create a test.
Create New Cloud Test Opens LoadRunner Cloud, enabling you to create a new test to run on the cloud from LoadRunner Enterprise. For details, see the LoadRunner Cloud Help Center.
