Set up UFT for mobile testing

This topic describes how to set up your mobile devices and the UFT testing environment

For advanced mobile testing, set up UFT Mobile to integrate with UFT.

For basic mobile testing, on one device at a time, set up local device testing.

Set up UFT Mobile to integrate with UFT

Before you connect from UFT, set up UFT Mobile and the devices you want to test from UFT.

Enable browser cookies

Enable browser cookies on the UFT Mobile machine before you start testing with UFT.

Verify your device connection

Verify that your devices are connected to the UFT Mobile server.

Prepare hybrid or native iOS apps

If you are testing hybrid or native mobile apps on iOS, you may need to prepare your apps before you start, including packaging and signing.

For details, see the UFT Mobile Help.

Handle your apps after a UFT Mobile upgrade

If you've upgraded UFT Mobile, ensure that the app you are testing is compatible with the current version of UFT Mobile.

Do the following:

  1. Remove all apps that were installed using the previous version. Do this on all relevant devices.

  2. Before running existing tests, set the Record and Run Settings to Install application before run.

For more details, see Define Mobile Record and Run Settings.

Set up local device testing

For basic mobile testing, on one device at a time, you can connect mobile devices directly to the UFT computer. On the UFT machine, install the UFT Mobile Add-in for Local Device, powered by UFT Mobile, to act as a local device connector.

System requirements

The installation requirements for the UFT Mobile Add-in for Local Device are as follows:

64-bit Windows machine

Free RAM: 1 GB minimum (2 GB recommended)

Hard disk space: 10 GB

  • General installation: 2 GB minimum (5 GB recommended)

    • Installation Directory: 2 GB

Note: You may require more space depending on the number of apps or app uploads you perform. For example, if the app size is 20 MB, and you have uploaded the same app 100 times, the required size is 2 GB.

    • Temp directory (\Temp): 5 GB

An additional 1 GB of free disk space is required on the system disk (the disk upon which the operating system is installed).

Download and install the local device connector

Download and install UFT Mobile Add-in for Local Device, available on the Micro Focus AppDelivery Marketplace.

During the installation, do the following:

  1. Service port and Internal port. Modify the port numbers if the default numbers (8080, 8081) are needed by other applications. Make sure the internal port is not accessible externally.

Remember the Service port number for subsequent use in UFT configuration.

Note: To modify port numbers after installation, uninstall and reinstall the program again.

  2. Android SDK emulator. The installation includes an Android SDK, used for emulating Android devices. You can specify that you want to use a different Android SDK installation. For more details on working with the Android SDK emulator, see the UFT Mobile Help.

  3. Run the service. For UFT to connect to your local devices, the UFT Mobile Add-in for Local Device service must be running.

Select the Turn on the service option in the installation wizard to run the service after installation.

To start, stop, or restart this service after installation, use the options available under Start MenuPrograms > UFT Mobile Add-in for Local Device. Alternatively, you can access the UFT Mobile Add-in service directly in the Task Manager's Services tab.

Connect your devices

Prepare your devices for mobile testing and connect them to the UFT computer. You can connect multiple devices, but you can only test one device at a time.

The UFT Mobile Add-in for Local Device, which connects the local devices to UFT, is powered by UFT Mobile. Therefore, it supports the same devices as UFT Mobile, with similar requirements.

For details, see the following topics in the UFT Mobile Help:

Prepare your apps

If your apps need preparation for testing, such as signing or packaging, you must do these before you start testing.

To test packaged apps on local devices, you must package them yourself. To do this, use the packaging tools available on the UFT Mobile page in the Micro Focus AppDelivery Marketplace.

For more details, see the UFT Mobile Help.
